We had a great seminar this weekend for the parents and student athletes out in the inland empire!! so many great players in southern cal its rediculous! this weekend had some girls softball, baseball, volleyball athletes. I believe there were more students at this seminar that are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to compete in NCAA then I've seen before... I think they got the concept of not having to compete in Division I to make an impact in the real world once their time with their sport was over! Great job parents.

There is something that I would reall like to make clear... Did you know that opportunities in college do not end at Division I !! The ole saying here in the OC... Sign, go D-1 or go home!!... wrong. Get over it DADS.

The truth of the matter is... If you can compete in Varsity sports in Southern Calif. there's a college or small university somewhere waiting to sign you!

Ok parents and student athletes... come find out why division II,III and NAIA schools are offering so many athletic scholarships and financial packages to student athletes... don't pass yours by like so many others have because they just didn 't know what they didn't know!!

I'm glad you brought that up Steve because I think so many players in all sports along with their parents think that if they play anything other than D1 their playing days are over after college is over. You provide a great service that players and parents need to take advantage of!

I was amused but not surprised when in the middle of my last seminar as I spoke about the difference between the different levels of colleges... a student athlete got the attention of the group when he said" did you know that the guy sitting at the end of the Arizona State Univerity baseball teams bench was the "Player of the Year" in his high school conference! My only comment back to him was...Thank you. That basically sums it up.

I just read your post above and I'm sitting here laughing because that is so true!! I'd much rather be the starting center fielder at Orange Coast Community College than sitting on the bench at UCLA and getting 25 ab's a year and no starts! I have always told my son and all the kids I've worked with over the years- "if you're good, they will find you"! Get yourself in a place where you can play and don't let "D1 Pride Syndrome" get in the way!
Here is some research I just found on line:
******************************************************************************* There are 286 Div I Schools, 236 Div II Schools, and 362 Div III schools. Assuming ALL of these have baseball teams and assuming all of the teams have 35 players on their rosters, there are over 30,000 NCAA baseball players in any given year. There are 30 MLB teams which have 25 players each, or 750 MLB player. (The teams can expand to 40 at the end of each season if desired, so there may be as many as 1,000 MLB players.) 30,000 divided by 750 would yield 40:1 odds of being drafted if EVERY team in MLB started over and had NOTHING BUT ROOKIES. A preposterous proposition at best! Therefore, the highest mathematical possibility would be 2.5%."
Here is some more research: ******************************************************************************* Less than three in 50, or about 5.6 percent, of high school senior boys interscholastic baseball players will go on to play men's baseball at a NCAA member institution.
Less than eleven in 100, or about 10.5 percent, of NCAA senior male baseball players will get drafted by a Major League Baseball (MLB) team.
Approximately one in 200, or approximately 0.5 percent of high school senior boys playing interscholastic baseball will eventually be drafted by an MLB team. *******************************************************************************
More input from another source: ****************************************************************************** After all you have already beat the odds. Statistics say 75% of players in youth sports are out of the game by the age of fourteen.
Let us look a little closer at the numbers. The National Collegiate Athletic Association displays data they have calculated this year. The NCAA has estimated the probability of competing in athletics beyond the High School level.
About 6.3 percent or 3 out of 50 high school players will go to play baseball at an NCAA member institution. Approximately 9 percent of NCAA college baseball players will get drafted by a Major League Baseball Team.
About one in 200, or about 0.44 percent of high school players will eventually be drafted by a MLB team. ******************************************************************************

I posted the above because many of us parents that have sons or daughters that have shown great potential need a "Roadmap" of how to get to the places our kids have wanted to get to and we wanted to see them there also. To beat the odds we all need help along the way. It's not an easy journey and it involves a lot of difficult decisions. Also, never stop pushing on getting good grades. If you're reading this post you probably have a son or daughter that you think will go places in sports after high school. THE ODDS ARE SLIM, BUT IT CAN BE DONE AND IF IT DOESN'T, MAKE SURE THERE'S A PLAN TO BE "COWBOYS, DOCTORS, LAWERS AND SUCH" as the song goes!
