I think you are asking about the NCAA standards that are actually in effect now.. this year there are some schools that will be getting penalized if they don't meet the standards.. The requirements are already out there and that is the Universities have to graduate a certain percentage of their student athletes or they could risk being ineligible for post season play... If there are multiple violations the university could be suspended indefinitely.

Yes Steve, that's what I was referring to. So, schools in the past that didn't put as much emphasis on giving scholarships to just great players with little regard to grades now have to make sure the kid has a good chance to graduate. If it takes the player 5 years to graduate instead of 4 and their college playing days are over does that still coount as a grauated player?

A lot of parents don't have a good understanding of "getting a red shirt year". Is that only for injuried players that will miss a year or are there other ways for a player to get a red shirt year?

The athlete has to be on track to graduate so yes this would count towards the overall requirements.

Pat thank you for the questions... this is the very reason I have my seminars. Parents must understand that the reason for the seminars is not necessarily only for admissions and financial aid... it's for their benefits of the things you don't get from a counselor or athletic director or even the coach. In my recent seminars questions like this one has started a flurry of questions. I have learned so much from the seminar I had with El Toro simply by listening to and reading some of the blogs on my site as well as yours... so I thank you for that... the answer to your question on "redshirt"... Alot of schools use the redshirt as a welcome to freshmen college athletes so to speak. Their are many reasons for this but the main one is to get the athlete ahead in their college school work... it could be because they have an upperclassman starting in the same position as the recruit... where the recruit would not waste a year of eligibility. The redshirt is not used for injuries, that is called a "greyshirt" which then saves that year of eligibility. hope that is clear to all of you. thank you.

Steve, I think the "Red Shirt" question and answers cleared up a lot of confusion. That's why I always suggest that people attend your seminar and when they do, come prepared with a list of questions for you.

Last week of the season Steve! At Mater Dei at 6:00pm tomorrow, home against Tesoro at 3:15 on Tuesday and close out the season at Tesoro at 3:15 on Thursday. I'll probably miss Monday and Thursday because I had surgery on both legs last Monday and will be on crutches for at least another week. Monday, I don't have a ride and Thursday there's no way I can make that walk on crutches to get to the Tesoro field. I'll just go tp the ET varsity game on Thursday. They need beat them both times to win the league!

It's coming to the end of the school year and sports are beginning to wind down... congratulations to all the athletes and their accomplisments. It seems like the school year just started and Grad night is already here! This is why I cannot encourage parents to sit down with their student athlete and really see what they need to do to prepare for college...this is absolutely the time to prepare for the next level of education and competition.

I had the opportunity to speak to some very excited young athletes in the South Long Beach area this past week... I realized that the off season is here for alot of young high school athletes... so parents are preparing for the cost of private lessons, academy sessions, speed training and agilities, scout ball, travel ball, jr. olympics, jr. nationals... just to remind you that as you are pulling out the check books and credit cards spending in the thousands in so many cases...what are we doing here? Preparing our athletes for the next level of competition... well for $99.00 you will get the information that you will need to best suit your young athletes needs and your own peace of mind.... Don't be blind sided when you blink your eye and your son or daughter is a senior and you did not prepare for college...contact Steve Daguio @ 714-264-0678 with Make the play of your life for this informative and eye opening seminar.

Steve- good message! I turned down several opportunities to play in events this summer and It's going to save me a few thousand dollars. I love the sales job I get from coaches of how my son has to be seen at these events if he wants a chance at a college scholarship.
Seriously, take your son or daughter to one of Steve's seminars and you'll save a ton of money and walk away feeling more confident about what you really need to be doing.
Steve- hope to see you at the CIF Playoffs! Pretty sure there's one next Friday at El Toro.
You should of seen the people at that game yesterday between El Toro and Tesoro, had to be at least 400 people there plus Cox TV!

I was in north Orange County .... it is getting exciting.. this is where the fun begins. There are so many good Orange County teams and they battle well... I will be at games all over the county and be sure to catch El Toro... Will the Varsity be bringing Luke up for the play-offs?
